Fundraisers Reception

True Blue Heroes!

On Thursday 3 December Kevin Thomson was on hand at Ibrox to present True Blue Hero medals to supporters who took on a personal challenge to raise funds for the Rangers Charity Foundation this year.  A magnificent £41,445 has been raised in 2009 through fans taking on personal challenges, such as climbing Ben Lomond, diving with sharks at Deep Sea World, swimming from Largs to Great Cumbrae, running the London Marathon to mention but a few.

Thomson is the Foundation’s Charity Champion and joined by Foundation Patron Arthur Numan, each were proud to show their appreciation for everyone’s efforts at the Foundation’s Annual Fundraisers’ Reception.

To encourage more fans to be a True Blue Hero the Rangers Charity Foundation has put together a range of exciting challenges for supporters to choose from, including:
 Meeting face to face with 12 foot long Sand Tiger Sharks in the ‘Diving With Sharks’ Challenge at Deep Sea World
 Leaping from a plane at 10,000 feet and freefalling at 120mph for the tandem skydive in Perthsire
 Trekking down over 3,000 feet into the heart of the Grand Canyon to camp at the bottom with native Havasupai Indians for the Grand Canyon Experience
 Undertaking the second Rangers Arctic Challenge 200km dog sledge through the wilds of Norway north of the Arctic Circle
 Enjoying Scotland’s most celebrated long walk in the company of fellow Rangers supporters, the 95 mile West Highland Way
 A variety of different runs from short fun runs to full marathons, including the Women’s 10K, Men’s Health 10K, Great Scottish Run and the Edinburgh marathon.

Charity Foundation Manager Connal Cochrane commented: “I’m delighted that so many of our supporters were able to attend the reception to receive their medals in person. The Rangers Charity Foundation’s heroes are our supporters.  We couldn’t assist so many good causes without them and we want to recognise this and to encourage more fans to come forward and be a real hero for the Foundation and all the work we do with our charity partners and in the community.“

Rangers fan Blair Pettigrew, who undertook a personal challenge earlier this year on behalf of the Foundation, commented: “I really enjoyed my personal challenge last year.  Not only did it give me a great sense of achievement, it was also a good feeling to know I was helping the Foundation’s Charity Partners.

“I am already planning this season’s challenge and would really urge every other bear to set themselves a personal challenge, raise some cash and support the excellent work our great Club’s Charity Foundation does.”
