Boys In Blue Take On Champion’s Challenge
A team of eight serving officers in Strathclyde Police are set to take on an unusual triathlon which they have dubbed the Champion’s Challenge – all in support of the Rangers Charity Foundation. Their huge personal challenge will take place on Saturday 3 April, the day Rangers play Hamilton at home, and will see the team try to climb and descend Ben Lomond, swim across the chilly waters of Loch Lomond and then cycle all the way to Ibrox in time to be introduced to the crowd at half-time.
These boys in blue hope to raise thousands of pounds for the Rangers Charity Foundation and the charities it supports. They’re also keen to encourage other blue noses to think about taking on a personal challenge to help the Foundation.
Blair Pettigrew instigated the idea for the challenge after completing his own triathlon for the Foundation last year. In a message to fellow fans Blair said “I think it’s a great idea for all Rangers fans out there to do their bit. The monies raised really do go to a great worthwhile cause so I hope people will get out there and take on one of the Foundation’s personal challenges.”
Another team member Iain Renfrew went on to say “It’s going to be a team effort and we’ll be looking after each other and dragging each other through. It’s a fantastic cause we’re raising funds for and that’s all the motivation I need. I just hope we manage to get to Ibrox by half-time!”
The Champion’s Challenge team is made up of: Blair Pettigrew, Steven Kattenhorn, Derek Scrafton, Graham Harron, Colin Leggat, Iain Renfrew, Neil Andrew and Allan Pattison and they’re all hoping that the Light Blue legions will back the team by donating online at www.justgiving.com/championschallenge or contacting the Rangers Charity Foundation office on 0141 580 8775.
Foundation Manager Connal Cochrane added “These guys are true blue heroes in more ways than one and I wish them every success with this gruelling challenge. I hope the fans will lend their support to the team’s fundraising efforts and give them a rousing reception when they complete this epic triathlon at Ibrox”
The Rangers Charity Foundation has an array of amazing challenges on offer through its True Blue Heroes campaign, including its annual Ben Lomond Challenge, tandem skydiving in Perthshire, running a 10k, diving with sharks at Deep Sea World plus many more. Every supporter who raises a minimum of £100 will also have the opportunity to be presented with a True Blue Hero medal from a Rangers first team player.
