"The Hammer" Launches Tee Challenge
Rangers legend Jorg Albertz has launched the Tee Challenge – a golf competition with friend Maik Fischer that will help raise funds for the Rangers Charity Foundation.
Jorg and Maik will play several rounds throughout Scotland this week – with further rounds planned in Germany and Scotland throughout the year – and whoever has the lowest handicap on November 30 will be declared the winner.
All donations raised by the pair throughout the Scottish leg of the competition will go to the Rangers Charity Foundation and Jorg is urging the Light Blue legions to continue their amazing support by backing the Challenge at www.tee-challenge.co.uk or www.rangerscharity.org.uk.
Visitors to the website will be able to follow the pair’s progress by viewing videos of training sessions, contributing to a forum discussion and taking part in live chats.
German star Albertz, who was a firm fans’ favourite throughout his hugely successful spell in Glasgow between 1996 and 2001, commented: “I will never forget my time at Rangers, it was the best spell of my playing career and the supporters will always hold a special place in my heart.
“Maik and I started the Tee Challenge as a bit of fun and now we can help the Rangers Charity Foundation, which always has the backing of the Rangers fans. It will be fantastic to play golf in Scotland once again and I am delighted we are able to help such a worthwhile cause.”
Maik Fischer commented: “We are playing for the Rangers Charity Foundation and I know Jorg is looking forward to returning to Scotland once again where he spent so many happy years.”
Rangers Charity Foundation Manager Connal Cochrane commented: “This is certainly one of the most unusual challenges anyone has taken on for the Rangers Charity Foundation. I am sure that everyone at Rangers will be keen to see if Jorg’s talents on the pitch can transfer to the golf course! I would like to wish both Jorg and Maik the best of luck and to thank them for choosing to support the tremendous work of the Foundation.”
The Rangers Charity Foundation has a large vision and an ever growing impact and since its creation in 2002 it has donated £685,000 in cash awards and over £1,015,000 of in-kind support to hundreds of groups and individuals, making a combined total of over £1,700,000.
The Foundation’s cash awards this season also include £15,000 for Community Partner Glasgow Old People’s Welfare Association and £30,000 for National Partner Teenage Cancer Trust.
The Foundation’s long-term partnership with International Charity Partner UNICEF is gathering momentum with the Foundation set to donate a total of £300,000 to support projects which will benefit thousands of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable children.
