Novo Challenges Fans To Be A True Blue Hero!
Fans’ favourite Nacho Novo has launched the Rangers Charity Foundation’s ‘True Blue Heroes’ campaign to encourage Rangers supporters to undertake a personal challenge on behalf of the Foundation.
The Foundation has put together a range of exciting challenges for supporters to choose from, including international treks such as the Inca Trail and Grand Canyon Experience and challenges based closer to home in Scotland, such as a tandem skydive, diving with sharks and walking the famous West Highland Way.
Spanish striker Nacho, who joined Rangers fans Lynne Nicholson and Blair Pettigrew at Ibrox to promote the activity, commented: “Some of the challenges on offer look absolutely brilliant and I think some of the players will be interested in taking part too. It is a great way for supporters to enjoy an amazing experience at the same time as raising money for a very worthwhile cause.”
The list of challenges, which will be added to throughout the year, include:
• Meeting face to face with 12 foot long Sand Tiger Sharks in the ‘Diving With Sharks’ Challenge
• Leaping from a plane at 10,000 feet and freefalling at 120mph for the tandem skydive
• Walking through the Andes in Peru on the famous Inca Trail to the lost city of Machu Picchu
• Trekking down over 3,000 feet into the heart of the Grand Canyon to camp at the bottom with native Havasupai Indians for the Grand Canyon Experience
• Undertaking the second Rangers Arctic Challenge 200km dog sledge through the wilds of Norway north of the Arctic Circle
• Enjoying Scotland’s most celebrated long walk in the company of fellow Rangers supporters, the 95 mile West Highland Way
• A variety of different runs from short fun runs to full marathons, including the Women’s 10K, Men’s Health 10K, Great Scottish Run and the Edinburgh marathon.
All the challenges will not only be an amazing experience for participants but will also raise funds for the Rangers Charity Foundation and help hundreds of good causes, including this season’s charity partners Glasgow Old People’s Welfare Association, Teenage Cancer Trust and UNICEF. Every fan who takes part will have the opportunity to be presented with a special ‘True Blue Hero’ medal at a ceremony hosted by a first team player.
Charity Foundation Manager Connal Cochrane commented: “Every year many of our supporters take on a personal challenge to raise funds for the Foundation and fans have come up with some amazing ideas, such as swimming from Largs to Cumbrae then cycling and running round the island, to cycling all the way from Glasgow to London.
“The Rangers Charity Foundation’s heroes are our supporters. We couldn’t support so many good causes without them and we want to recognise this and to encourage more fans to come forward and be a real hero for the Foundation and all the work we do with our charity partners and in the community. That is why we have called the campaign True Blue Heroes – the kind of people who go that extra mile to raise money for charity really deserve that title.”
Rangers fan Blair Pettigrew, who undertook a personal challenge earlier this year on behalf of the Foundation, commented: “I really enjoyed my personal challenge last year. Not only did it give me a great sense of achievement, it was also a good feeling to know I was helping the Foundation’s Charity Partners.
“I am already planning this season’s challenge and would really urge every other bear to set themselves a personal challenge, raise some cash and support the excellent work our great Club’s Charity Foundation does.”
