Winter Hub in the Community School Tournaments Held at Ibrox Community Complex

Tue 13th January 2026

The Ibrox Community Complex recently played host to another two-day football tournament between the Rangers Charity Foundation’s four Hub in the Community schools.

The tournaments allowed S1 and S3 pupils from all four Schools (Govan High School, Drumchapel High School, Knightswood Secondary and Whitehill Secondary) to come together to play eleven-aside matches.

The S1 tournament was won by Drumchapel High School after a ‘local derby’ match against neighbours Knightswood Secondary School. However, Knightswood would bounce back from their defeat earlier in the week by lifting the S3 trophy just a short time later.

The Hub in the Community programme places dedicated Hub Officers in local secondary schools to mentor pupils, support school attendance and help young people transition confidently to further education or employment. Delivered by the Rangers Charity Foundation in partnership with secondary schools across Glasgow, it creates a stable environment where pupils receive tailored support and guidance.

With the combined efforts of all five Community Hub Officers, the tournament was a resounding triumph.

Reflecting on the tournament Foundation Community Programmes Manager, Jamie Duncanson said:

“Seeing our Hub schools come together for this tournament was truly inspiring. Events like this bring the Hub in the Community programme to life.

“These tournaments are not just about football, they’re about giving young people confidence, building friendships and reinforcing the positive support networks that our Hub Officers create every day.

“Whether mentoring in the classroom or cheering on the sidelines, our Hub Officers are committed to helping pupils reach their potential and strengthening the connection between school, sport and wider opportunities.”

Each school benefits from at least one full-time Community Hub Officer who works closely with teachers, support staff and families.

This includes delivering one-to-one mentoring to young people facing barriers in school, leading group sessions aimed at improving attendance, behaviour and confidence, co-ordinating class-based projects and transition activities from primary to secondary school and supporting pupils as they plan their next steps after leaving school.

The programme launched in January 2018 at Govan High School and then extended into other schools such as Knightswood Secondary School, Drumchapel High School and Whitehill Secondary School due to its success. In early 2025 Whitehill added a second full-time Community Hub Officer to help support more pupils.
