Foundation Employability Participants Treated to Army Recruitment Activity Sessions
Tue 3rd February 2026
The Rangers Charity Foundation’s employability groups were recently visited by local army recruitment officers for some activity sessions. The group – primarily made up of Qualifications Scotland Wider Achievement participants – were tasked with completing several activities as individuals and teams.
They had the opportunity to take on reaction challenges, map puzzles and a blindfolded obstacle course all aimed at building teamwork skills.
The Qualifications Scotland Programme of Wider Achievement, delivered by Foundation, helps young people gain essential life and employability skills beyond the classroom. In partnership with schools across Glasgow and the central belt of Scotland, the programme supports pupils to grow in confidence, build key competencies, and gain formal recognition for their achievements.

Kalum, a pupil attending the Wider Achievement programme from Hyndland Secondary School said:
“The day’s been good. I’ve been working together with the rest of my group which has been fun.
“I enjoy coming here because it gets me out of school to learn different things but at the same time, I find that I’m concentrating more in school. I get to spend time on different qualifications that are relevant to me and work through that with some of my mates.
“The armed forces coming in shows you what’s available for you and teaches you about teamwork which is really important in any job.”
Foundation Community Programmes Manager, Jamie Duncanson, added:
“It’s been great to have the army recruitment personnel in. We’re really big on vocational learning at the Foundation and to be able to expose our participants to different things like potential jobs is huge for us.
“Everyone – including the staff – really enjoyed having the army in and it’s been great to see so many of the participants engage well and hopefully some of them will have some new ideas about what they want to go on and do after these sessions.”
As part of the Wider Achievement programme pupils, complete accredited qualifications that recognise their growth and effort throughout the course thanks to the Foundation’s status as a Qualifications Scotland Ap0proved Centre. As a result, they leave school with valuable skills, greater self-belief and a stronger CV.

Many young people learn vital skills through sport, volunteering or community work. However, these achievements often go unnoticed in traditional academic settings. The Qualifications Scotland Programme of Wider Achievement ensures that effort is recognised, celebrated and rewarded.
