SQA Programme Of Wider Achievement

The SQA Programme of Wider Achievement, delivered by the Rangers Charity Foundation, helps young people gain essential life and employability skills beyond the classroom. In partnership with schools across Glasgow and the central belt of Scotland, the programme supports pupils to grow in confidence, build key competencies, and gain formal recognition for their achievements.

Through practical learning, teamwork and mentoring, pupils discover how their experiences can lead to positive futures in education, training and employment.

What the Programme Offers

The SQA Programme of Wider Achievement gives pupils opportunities to develop real-world skills and earn nationally recognised qualifications from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA).

Participants take part in workshops, projects and mentoring sessions focused on:

  • Communication, teamwork and leadership

  • Personal development and resilience

  • Community involvement and volunteering

  • Preparing for work, further education and training

In addition, pupils complete an accredited qualification that recognises their growth and effort throughout the course. As a result, they leave school with valuable skills, greater self-belief and a stronger CV.

Why the Programme Matters

Many young people learn vital skills through sport, volunteering or community work. However, these achievements often go unnoticed in traditional academic settings. The SQA Programme of Wider Achievement ensures that effort is recognised, celebrated and rewarded.

It helps young people to:

  • Build confidence through hands-on learning experiences

  • Gain formal SQA recognition for skills learned outside the classroom

  • Strengthen employability and future opportunities

  • Stay engaged and motivated throughout their education

Furthermore, by highlighting every pupil’s strengths, the programme contributes to improved attainment and positive post-school destinations across the central belt.

Who Can Take Part

The programme runs in partnership with schools across Glasgow and surrounding areas. It welcomes pupils who want to develop practical skills, gain confidence and achieve recognition for their personal growth.

Moreover, the flexible structure allows teachers and mentors to tailor activities to suit individual learners — ensuring every young person feels supported and included.
