Get Ready For Sport
The Get Ready 4 Sport programme helps children in the early years of primary school become active, learn about health and fitness, and build confidence in a fun environment. The Rangers Charity Foundation delivers the programme to hundreds of pupils in Glasgow and the central belt every year.
What the Programme Involves
Each session includes interactive sporting activities designed for children in Primary 1 to Primary 3. These fun, coach‑led games and drills develop movement skills, coordination and an understanding of why being active matters.
In addition, the programme teaches simple health and wellbeing messages — children learn about staying healthy, eating well, and being active every day.
Why the Programme Matters
Some children miss out on structured sport and movement opportunities at an early age. However, through the Get Ready 4 Sport programme:
-
They gain access to organised sport in a friendly, inclusive environment.
-
They build early confidence, coordination and social skills by taking part in fun games.
-
They understand how regular physical activity and healthy habits support their wellbeing and school-life success.
Furthermore, by linking sport with health education, the programme helps children develop long-term confidence, engagement and positive lifestyle choices.
Who Can Take Part?
The programme targets children in Primary 1 through Primary 3. Schools in Glasgow and the central belt can participate. Activities engage children of all abilities, and the programme focuses on fun, inclusion and health. Schools that wish to take part can contact the Foundation to arrange sessions.
