Glasgow Veterans United

The Glasgow Veterans United programme offers veterans a welcoming weekly walking football session and social space. Delivered by the Foundation in partnership with the Veteran’s Foundation and Glasgow’s Helping Heroes, the programme helps former service personnel connect, improve fitness and build support networks.

What the Programme Offers

Every Tuesday at 11 am, participants meet at the Ibrox Community Complex on the new 3G pitch. First, they enjoy one hour of walking football — a non-contact version of the game that keeps the competitive spirit alive, yet lowers risk. After the game, they spend an hour socialising with peer coaches and veteran-support staff.
Alongside sport and social time, we provide access to additional support including housing & benefits help, financial advice, employability guidance, health advice and trauma counselling.

Who Can Join?

The programme is open to all veterans in the Glasgow area. There is no requirement to have played football before, and any age or fitness level is welcome. Whether you’re transitioning from service, adapting to civilian life or simply looking to get active and meet others, this is your space.

Why It Makes a Difference

Many veterans face challenges such as isolation, changes in routine or adapting to civilian life. This programme addresses those issues by:

  • Providing regular, structured activity in a familiar environment

  • Building peer-to-peer connections and a supportive community

  • Improving physical fitness through walking football

  • Offering a safe venue to access additional support services
