Alex Rae Supports Addiction Recovery Event at the Ibrox Community Complex

Thu 26th June 2025

The Ibrox Community Complex played host to the Recovery Orientated Systems of Care networking event this week.

This event enables those recovering from addiction who attend our Recovery Drop-In sessions with a chance to meet other people who may be in the same situation as them while also giving them a chance to get the support they need.

Attendees were able to engage with other organisations that work within addiction including: Crossreach, Wise Group, Turning Point and SAMH.

Doors at the complex were open from 11am until 3pm with lunch on offer and the opportunity to participate in a group share.

Recovery Drop In sessions – run in partnership with South Community Recovery Network (SCRN) – grew from our Recovery With Rangers programme, giving those who have begun a new journey post addiction with the chance to continue to access peer support following completion of the course.

Former Rangers player and Foundation Trustee Alex Rae stopped by the event to speak to attendees. He said:

“I’m always blown away by the work the Foundation does. We have a really high number of addiction-related deaths in this country, so we have a real need to try and help those battling addiction. Events like this and programmes like Recovery Drop-In are crucial and I’m so pleased with the turnout here today.”

“I know how difficult the recovery path can be for people so coming here and sharing and supporting one another can hopefully create that bit of magic whereby people can identify and get the help and advice they need to live a clean and sober life.”

Recovery Development Worker for SCRN, Anna added:

“Today’s been fantastic and an amazing success. We couldn’t have held such an important event without the help of the Foundation. Not only did they give us use of the Ibrox Community Complex, but they’ve helped with the planning too.”

“The Foundation’s Recovery Drop-In programme is vital for the people in the local community. As staff with SCRN, we’ve all got that lived experience so being able to welcome people to Ibrox and hopefully help them on their recovery journey is so important.”

Recovery Drop-In sessions provide a safe and friendly place to meet and are free and open to anyone who is recovering from addiction. The committee is also able to refer attendees to other recovery initiatives around the city, providing further opportunities for support.
