Foundation Welcomes Alex Rae To Walking Football Session
Fri 21st April 2023
The Rangers Charity Foundation was delighted to welcome club legend and Foundation trustee Alex Rae along to one of our weekly Walking Football sessions.
Alex took part in the games before meeting the participants for some well-earned refreshments afterwards. He said: “It’s been great to come here and join in on one of the weekly Walking Football sessions.
“You get a real feel for the togetherness in the group and it’s the benefits of that social side and just how good for you a bit of banter is, as well as some exercise, that can’t be underestimated.”
Our FREE weekly Walking Football sessions are held at the Ibrox Community Complex on Thursdays at 11am* – 1pm and are open to anyone over the age of 50.
Walking Football is a version of the sport which is non-contact and allows participants of all levels to play the game without the same risk of injury or level of exertion, whilst still boosting fitness.
Speaking after the session, one participant, Susan Ramsey, said: “The comradery and the friendships is what keeps me coming back here because it’s people that we train with that are coming so it’s great fun and it’s great to see Alex Rae joining in too.
“The amount of people that I know here that are on their own and now it’s just a case of giving them a quick call and asking them how they’re doing which is really important, but it comes so easy. The coaches are absolutely brilliant too. They’re really encouraging and a great laugh as well.”
Another long-time attendee, Iain Cameron said: “It’s just a really good crowd here. It’s people turning out for a wee game with no bad tackles and nobody’s getting annoyed with each other, it’s just a game of football. The coaches as well are fantastic. John and Harry are great at bringing us all together.
“I just came along to a session seven years ago, there was 17 of us there that first night and I was hooked right away.”
