Hub in the Community Schools Celebrate End of Term with Summer Football Tournament
Tue 23rd June 2026
The Ibrox Community Complex recently welcomed pupils from the Rangers Charity Foundation’s four Hub in the Community schools for a special end-of-term football tournament.
The event brought together pupils from all year groups across multiple days as students from Govan High School, Drumchapel High School, Knightswood Secondary School and Whitehill Secondary School teamed up for a day of competitive football, teamwork and celebration as the school year came to a close.
Across the tournament, pupils had the opportunity to represent their schools, develop new friendships and enjoy a positive sporting experience alongside their peers from across Glasgow.
The Hub in the Community programme places dedicated Community Hub Officers within local secondary schools to mentor young people, support school attendance and help pupils build confidence as they progress through school and prepare for future opportunities.

The summer tournament provided a fitting way to mark the end of another successful school year, with Community Hub Officers from each school working together to organise and deliver the event.
Reflecting on the day, Community Hub Officer Scott Smith said:
“These tournaments are always a highlight of the school year. It’s fantastic to see pupils from all four Hub schools come together, enjoy themselves and represent their schools with pride.
“The day is about much more than football. It’s an opportunity for young people to build confidence, strengthen friendships and celebrate everything they have achieved throughout the year. The positive attitude, teamwork and sportsmanship on display were brilliant to see, and everyone involved should be proud of themselves.”
Govan High School pupil Thomas said:
“Today’s been fantastic and for Scott to let me organise our team was a great way to round off my time working with him.
“He’s helped us a lot over the years at Govan High and these tournaments are a great way for us to celebrate working together with him and my other friends. I’m really proud to have formed a good relationship with him and I just want to say thanks for his help over the years.”
Each school benefits from at least one full-time Community Hub Officer who works closely with teachers, support staff and families to provide tailored support for young people.
This includes delivering one-to-one mentoring for pupils facing challenges in school, leading group sessions focused on attendance, behaviour and confidence, supporting transitions from primary to secondary school and helping young people plan their next steps beyond education.

Since launching at Govan High School in January 2018, the Hub in the Community programme has expanded to include Knightswood Secondary School, Drumchapel High School and Whitehill Secondary School, supporting hundreds of young people across Glasgow.
The Rangers Charity Foundation would like to thank all pupils, school staff and Community Hub Officers who helped make the end-of-term tournament such a success and wishes everyone a safe and enjoyable summer break.
