Milla’s Week of Work Experience

Mon 17th October 2022

The Rangers Charity Foundation welcomed Milla McGonigle to Ibrox Stadium for a week of work experience. Milla spent time with each of the different teams which make up the Foundation (Charity, Fundraising, Community, Communications, Finance and Operations) to learn about the variety of jobs and vast amount of work we do in the local community and beyond.

I am an S4 pupil at Mearns Castle High School, Glasgow and I chose to do my week of work experience at the Rangers Charity Foundation as I thought it would give me the opportunity to get an insight in to the possible job roles I would consider in the future.

The whole team have been extremely welcoming and have given me a great range of experiences and tasks to do to further develop my skills. Through the week I have seen the operations and the financial aspects of the Foundation, going to meetings and completing job recruitment posts. I have also been out in the community at Ibrox Primary School helping out with their GetReady4Sport programme, aimed at getting P2 pupils active, which I really enjoyed as working with kids in sport is definitely something I would consider in the future. Then later that day, I worked with the communications team where I learned the process of creating social media posts. I went out in the stadium to take pictures and helped schedule posts on Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, which I really enjoyed as social media marketing is another job I would look into for the future.

On Wednesday I got the opportunity to go to the Ibrox Community Hub and experience first-hand the community programmes they run there. It was very interesting and a great experience to see the amazing work they do for teenagers from all over Glasgow, helping them not only gain qualifications needed to apply for jobs but guiding them on how to actually go about getting jobs.

I then got to see how the Foundation raises funds by taking pictures of planned auction items for the 20th Anniversary Platinum Ball. Lastly, on Friday I got an insight into more charity activity happening in the office such as mailing out lots of annual review books and letters of support, and items to people to help them raise money for different causes close to their hearts as well.

“Overall, I have thoroughly enjoyed my week at the Rangers Charity Foundation so a big thank you for helping me further my experiences in the world of work and making my decision for the future.”
