Rangers Women Star Mia McAulay Takes Time Out to Teach Pupils About Healthy Living

Wed 12th March 2025

Rangers Women Starlet, Mia McAulay, helped to inspire pupils from Pollokshields Primary School towards a healthier future on a recent visit as part of the Rangers Charity Foundation’s ‘Joy of Moving’ project, in partnership with the SPFL Trust.

Mia – who recently received her first senior international call-up – took time out to answer questions about her young career and talk about the importance of fitness and diet, not just for athletes but for everyone.

Mia said:

“It’s been fun to be able to come down here today and talk to the pupils about being healthy. It’s so important for me and the team to give ourselves the best chance on the pitch but it’s equally important that young kids get good information about nutrition and physical activity.”

“The pupils asked great questions, and it was fun to talk to them too. Hopefully they remember a few tips to take with them as they grow up.”

“I’m still young and still remember school well so hopefully I can help to inspire even a few of the pupils that I met today.”

The ‘Joy of Moving’ programme works with pupils aged 9-10 years in schools across Glasgow to encourage physical activity and promote a healthy diet. Students have been learning about nutrition and taking part in football sessions with Rangers Charity Foundation community coaches for six weeks, so were able to impress Mia with their knowledge and skills.

Rangers Charity Foundation Community Programmes Manager, Jordan Boyd, added:

“It’s been great to have Mia down at Pollokshields Primary School today to help the pupils understand the importance of living a healthy life. Mia is a young player who has put in the hard work to make it as a professional so she’s a great role model for the kids.

“We want to help create healthier communities for the future, and we believe projects like this really work in achieving that.”

“Joy of Moving is now in its tenth year, and we are proud to have delivered this programme to over 1,800 children across Glasgow last season alone. The project is a six-week course we run through the school term, and it focuses on educating the students and helping them to build their knowledge and form positive habits that will stand them in good stead for their entire lives.”
