Sleep Out From Home!

Mon 9th November 2020

We’re determined not to let the pandemic stop us helping those in our city with no safe place to sleep so this year we’re bringing the Sleep Outs to you with our new Sleep Out From Home challenge on Friday 4 December!

Got a garden shed, or maybe a balcony? Want to build a den in your garden, or sleep in the attic?  Maybe you want to sleep in the dog’s bed? The choice is yours!

We are asking Sleep Out From Home participants to swap their warm, comfortable bed for a sleeping bag and pick an unusual spot in their home or garden to spend one restless night in support of the Rangers Charity Foundation and our Community Partner Glasgow City Mission.

Covid-19 has affected the lives of everyone in Scotland, but for those experiencing homelessness, it has been devastating. You can help us to support Glasgow City Mission’s new Overnight Welcome Centre by taking part in our new virtual event, joining the Foundation and fellow Rangers fans on-line for a Sleep Out with a difference.

We will send you a goodie bag for the night, which will include a limited edition Rangers Charity Foundation bobble hat, snacks and selfie prop!

Our virtual event will include entertainment such as a talk from Glasgow City Mission, live music AND appearances from some special Rangers guests! More information will be sent out to signed-up participants closer to the event.

You can sign up now HERE and help us support some of the most vulnerable people in the country at this difficult time, building upon the incredible support Rangers fans have demonstrated for homeless projects over the five years we have been holding the Sleep Outs, raising an incredible £210,000 for these projects, as well as vital funds for the Foundation.

Every penny raised will be split between the Foundation’s life-changing work in the community and Glasgow City Mission’s new Overnight Welcome Centre. Unlike the Winter Night Shelter, the new centre will stay open 24/7, allowing staff to fast track guests into accommodation and offer additional help and support during the day.  Every £1,000 we raise for Glasgow City Mission will allow the charity to open this vital centre for a day over the cold winter months.

Glasgow City Mission’s Marketing and Fundraising Manager Jack Geddes said: “Glasgow City Mission is launching a new initiative this winter, The Glasgow Overnight Welcome Centre (OWC), which will build on the success of 10 years of our night shelter. It will now be a 24-hour service in a city centre hotel.

“We will also be supplying a hot dinner cooked in our Crimea Street building and transported to the OWC. These changes are very positive and we’re delighted that the support from the Rangers Charity Foundation is not changing!

“The faithful support of the Foundation and Rangers fans over the years has saved lives at the night shelter and will now save lives at the OWC. Thank you so much from all at Glasgow City Mission!”

We are asking all participants to try an raise a minimum of £50 and if you raise £100 or more, you’ll become one of our famous True Blue Heroes – meaning you’ll receive a special medal from a First Team player.*

Help us be a force for good in our city and sign up HERE to take part, or call the Foundation on 0141 580 8775 or e-mail rangerscharity@rangers.co.uk for further information. A registration fee of £5 per person is applicable.

We would especially like to thank Rangers kit sponsors 32Red who will once again support the Sleep Outs with a generous donation.

*Whilst we’re committed to thanking and rewarding all of our True Blue Hero, we currently have a backlog so cannot confirm exactly when or how the receptions will be possible. As a minimum, all fundraisers will receive a medal and signed letter from a player, however, we will endeavour to thank all our True Blue Heroes at Ibrox.
