We’re Putting Children 1st!

Thu 13th February 2020

The Foundation and Children 1st have teamed up to organise a range of activities at Saturday’s game against Livingston to raise awareness of our partnership and the charity’s Parentline service, which gives a helping hand to families across Scotland with support and advice online and over the phone.

The players will warm up pre-match in dual branded charity t-shirts and the jumbotrons will show a Parentline video and advert. The Foundation is hosting a can collection at the turnstiles for the charity and there will be information in the programme on the partnership and Parentline.

Children 1st’s mascot Hamish the Highland Cow will join Broxi in the Family Stand for photographs and fun activities, and will also entertain supporters on the pitch pre-match and at half-time. Children representing the charity will take part in a special penalty shoot-out at half time on the pitch against Broxi and Hamish. There will also be a selfie board and photographer in and around the Stadium so fans can show their support for Children 1st and the Foundation by sharing pictures on social media.

Gary Kernahan, Director of Fundraising, Children 1st said: “We are delighted to be at Rangers v Livingston this weekend to talk to fans about how Children 1st Parentline lends a helping hand so that all children in Scotland feel safer, happier and more loved. By making donations and raising awareness, fans and Rangers Charity Foundation are helping families across Scotland get free and confidential support through Parentline, at the touch of a button.”

Rangers Charity Foundation Director Connal Cochrane commented:

“The Foundation announced Children 1st as its National Charity Partnership for the season back in August where we pledged to raise £20,000 to support Parentline, which is there for any parent who need some support, help or advice.“

Every family needs a little extra help from time to time, and sometimes getting support early on can really help parents deal with a serious challenge that could have a lasting impact on their child’s happiness and wellbeing. Parentline helps any family in Scotland needing help and that is why the Rangers Charity Foundation is delighted to be supporting Children 1st this season.

You can find out more about the partnership on the Foundation’s website at and read more about Parentline at or call 08000 28 22 33 for help and advice.

Rangers players, management and staff have also been supporting Children 1st by taking part in a campaign in recent weeks on social media highlighting the importance of positive childhood memories for healthy development.

Steven Gerrard, Jermain Defoe, Peter Lovenkrands, Andy Halliday and Gary McAllister have been sharing their own memories and even some old photographs with the hashtags #MyMatchdayMemories and #WithAHandFromParentline.

There’s still time for supporters to get involved, celebrate some of their happy football memories and potentially win a prize by sharing them on social media with the hashtags and tagging the Foundation and Children 1st.
