Working Together For Children In Scotland

Wed 28th August 2019

The Rangers Charity Foundation has teamed up with new National Charity Partnership Children 1st to ensure every family in Scotland can get support from their home at the touch of a button when they need it.

The Foundation has pledged to support Scotland’s national children’s charity with its Parentline service, and aims to raise £20,000 over the course of the season, which will enable Children 1st to fund 40 additional volunteers and help to ensure that the Parentline service remains free – meaning more families in Scotland can get support.

To celebrate the launch, Andy Halliday enjoyed a kick-about with children from across Glasgow and took part in a question and answer session with the kids, which focused on happy childhood memories. Andy discussed his own recollections of growing up close to Ibrox Stadium, his first Rangers strip and early matchday memories.

He said: “The Rangers Charity Foundation does incredible work with people of all ages, but it’s great to see that this season’s national partnership will focus on children in Scotland.

“I look back on growing up around Ibrox very fondly but it’s important that every child is given the best start possible, full of happy memories – football has the power to help support this.”

“I’m sure that the fans will get behind the Foundation in their new partnership with Children 1st this season, and hope that it will help them to support more children in Scotland than ever.”

Children 1st works alongside families to help them build the strong relationships that make all the difference to a child’s long-term health and safety. Doing things together – like watching football – can help children build positive relationships, which helps them develop into healthy adults.

To celebrate the new partnership, Rangers Charity Foundation and Children 1st are asking fans to create and share positive #MatchdayMemories from childhood of themselves enjoying football with their family or friends, using the hashtag and tagging the charities across social media.

Welcoming the partnership, Mary Glasgow, Chief Executive of Children 1st said: “We are delighted that Rangers Charity Foundation has chosen to support families across Scotland through our Parentline service.

“Every family has their ups and downs and we all need a bit of support sometimes. And for some families Parentline is ‘a lifeline.’ Getting early help can make all the difference and, thanks to the Rangers Charity Foundation and its supporters, more families will get the support they need as soon as they need it.”

Rangers Charity Foundation Director, Connal Cochrane, added: “We’re proud to have worked with a range of national partners over many years, which have each made a lasting difference to communities across Scotland.

“This season’s relationship with Children 1st presents an exciting and important opportunity to reach families who might be in need of support, but are unsure how to access it.

“By supporting and promoting the Parentline, we hope to show the Rangers Family and parents everywhere that they do not need to go through anything alone – help is always there.”

“We’re looking forward to working with Children 1st on this shared ethos throughout the course of the season.”
