Foundation Donates £15,000 to Services Related Charities

Fri 25th August 2017

Rangers young striker Ryan Hardie today presented three services related charities with cheques totalling £15,000 on behalf of the Rangers Charity Foundation.

This latest donation to Poppyscotland, Combat Stress and The Rifle Regimental Trust’s Care for Casualties appeal completes the Foundation’s pledge to raise £25,000 for services related charities during season 2016/17, with veterans’ charity Erskine having already received a £10,000 donation to help with the cost of a specially adapted minibus (pictured below) for residents.

The donation to Combat Stress will support the vital work of the charity’s Scotland West Community Team, which provides care and support to veterans in association with a variety of community mental health services.

The £5,000 donation to Poppyscotland will assist with delivery of its Employ-Able programme, which helps veterans take steps towards the training course or work placement most suitable to them.

Finally, Care For Casualties donation will help the charity continue its activities supporting wounded Riflemen, their families and the families of the fallen.

Ryan Hardie commented: “The Club and Foundation have a very strong tradition of helping services related charities and I’m delighted to be part of that tradition today and present these great causes with much needed funds for their work with veterans and serving personnel.”

Gordon Michie, Head of Fundraising at Poppyscotland, commented, “We know that finding suitable and sustainable employment after Service is vital for those adjusting to life in civvy street. Employ-Able helps some of our most detached and vulnerable veterans and this fantastic donation will help Poppyscotland provide many more with access to this life-changing support.

“On behalf of the Armed Forces community we offer our grateful thanks to the Rangers Charity Foundation, and everyone who has contributed so generously.”

Foundation Director Connal Cochrane added: “While we have always worked closely with the armed forces and services related charities, we were very proud earlier this season, along with the Club, to be joint signatories of the Armed Forces Covenant.

“We pledged to support serving personnel and veterans whenever possible and uphold the principles of the covenant and today’s donations, along with our recent donation to Erskine, is just one of the many initiatives we have undertaken that honours this pledge.”
