Generators Donated to Ukraine
Wed 1st February 2023
The Foundation is delighted to be part of the European Football For Development Network and FC Shakhtar’s initiative to supply power generators to people within Ukraine, many of whom are living without power due to Russian shelling of civilian infrastructures.
Thanks to our discretionary grants fund, we have been able to purchase two generators to help Ukrainian people who are without electricity to light and heat their homes and cook during this cold winter. It is currently very cold in parts of Ukraine, with temperatures regularly dropping in winter to as low as -20 degrees.
The generators collected as part of the initiative are being used to support the Shelter Centre work at the Arena Lviv where 200 people live, including 70 children, as well as various strategic support points throughout Ukraine. The campaign aims to collect 160 generators, which will make a huge difference to Ukraine’s people.
Inna Khmyzova, Director of Shakhtar Social CO commented:
“Ukrainians face a huge problem of lack of electricity due to shelling of civilian infrastructure by Russia. A cold winter is ahead, and the country has huge problems with electricity, communications, the Internet, and heating.
By donating a generator, football clubs are showing solidarity with Ukraine and supporting Ukrainians in this difficult time. Your help is not only a donation of electrical energy, but a donation of humanity, love and hope.”
Foundation Chief Executive Connal Cochrane commented:
“It’s important that we are also able to help people still in Ukraine via this EFDN scheme. As winter continues with temperatures regularly below freezing, we are pleased, along with many other European club foundations, to be able to send generators to provide some help to communities there. They have our very best wishes.”
This follows a significant donation to the UNICEF and DEC Emergency appeals for Ukraine last year.
