The Rangers Charity Foundation and Rangers FC have produced a short video in support of Alzheimer Scotland which features a host of first team players revealing some of their most memorable football moments.  

The video, which can be viewed here, was shown on the big screens to over 44,000 fans during half-time at Rangers match against Queen of the South at Ibrox.

With the strapline ‘Together we’re tackling dementia’, the video has been produced as part of the Rangers Charity Foundation’s season-long partnership with Alzheimer Scotland and aims to raise awareness of the 24 hour Dementia Helpline – 0808 808 3000. 

Dementia is one of Scotland’s most pressing public health issues. Over 90,000 people live with the condition and countless partners, family members and friends are also affected.  The helpline is available every day for anyone who needs information or someone to talk to about dementia.  

Foundation Director Connal Cochrane commented, “We’re delighted to help promote the Dementia Helpline with this short video and hope that by spreading the word about the services Alzheimer Scotland provides, no-one will have to face a diagnosis of dementia alone.

“Thanks to the generosity of our fans, we’re on track to donate £25,000 to Alzheimer Scotland at the end of the season which will fund vital projects such as Football Memories and Dementia friends, as well as the Helpline.”    

Rangers Captain Lee Wallace added, “The players were keen to get involved in this video and help the charity get the message out to fans that the Dementia Helpline is there to support anyone who is worried about memory loss, or has questions about dementia.”  

Anna Devine, Director of Fundraising and Marketing at Alzheimer Scotland, added, “It’s great to see Rangers players and staff behind the scenes come together to make this short video a reality. We are delighted with the outcome and believe it will go a long way to help inform supporters about our 24 Dementia Helpline, which is open to anyone who has any questions about dementia.

“We hope more fans will support our campaign to get informed about dementia and become Dementia Friends. Together we can help build a legacy of support and awareness for the future to ensure that no one faces dementia alone.”

Activity at match at Ibrox also included a bucket collection for Alzheimer Scotland, information posters around the Stadium, an article in the matchday programme and an appearance on the pitch from Alzheimer Scotland’s mascot, Buddy the dog. 

The Foundation is also on target to donate £25,000 to Alzheimer Scotland to support vital projects including the Helpline, Dementia Friends and the unique Football Memories Project.
