Poppyscotland Presents Foundation With Special Honour

Fri 13th October 2023

Poppyscotland has presented the Rangers Charity Foundation and Rangers Football Club with a special honour to mark their significant contribution to the charity over the last few years.

The club and Foundation have helped to raise over £118,000 for Poppyscotland between 2019 and 2022, thanks to Remembrance Day can collections, the auction of embroidered Remembrance Day matchworn shirts, the sale of Poppyscotland’s dual branded Rangers badges and the Foundation’s fundraising for Poppyscotland as part of its Armed Forces Fund.

This latest amount builds upon previous donations, with the club and Foundation having enjoyed a long relationship with Poppyscotland over many years.

Gordon Michie, Poppyscotland’s Head of Fundraising and Damian Doran-Timson, Poppyscotland’s Corporate Fundraiser, presented Rangers Charity Foundation Chief Executive Connal Cochrane with a framed poppy and certificate at Ibrox to mark the achievement.

Gordon Michie commented: “It was brilliant to meet with Connal and everyone who is connected with the Rangers Charity Foundation. As a charity, they are so supportive of all that we do for our Armed Forces community in Scotland.poppy jersey

“Their generosity and fundraising initiatives allow us to maintain our first-in-class welfare services 365 days of the year. I want to thank them once more for their vital support, and I look forward to continuing our collaborative efforts going into this year’s Scottish Poppy Appeal and beyond.”

Connal Cochrane commented: “We were delighted to receive this recognition from Poppyscotland for our support over the last few years.

“Alongside the club, we are proud to observe Remembrance at Ibrox each year, commemorating those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, and to continue to support Poppyscotland in its vital work with serving personnel and veterans.”

The Rangers Charity Foundation has a long and proud tradition of working with services related charities and was a joint signatory, along with the Club, to the Armed Forces Covenant in 2016.

The Foundation went on to become the first club and club charity in the UK to receive the Armed Forces Covenant Employer Recognition Scheme’s Gold Award from the Ministry of Defence in 2019.

The Foundation has donated over £241,000 in cash to armed forces and veterans’ charities to date, as well as significant in-kind support.
