Supporting Glasgow’s Sick Kids

We’re continuing our long-standing relationship with Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity this season (2016/17) by pledging £10,000 to help the charity make Christmas extra special for the children and their families, and to fund an important piece of equipment to help young cancer patients.
We’ll help to make cancer treatment more bearable for children by funding a special laser pen to treat Oral Mucositis, a debilitating and painful side effect of chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
Oral Mucositis is an inflammation of the soft tissue in the mouth which causes severe pain resulting in an inability to consume foods or liquids orally, as well as a significant increase in infections. This can prove very uncomfortable for many of the children during their ongoing treatment for cancer.
We’ll also continue our tradition of bringing some Christmas spirit to the wards by funding decorations for the hospital, including trees, baubles and lights. And of course, the players will make their regular visit to the hospital in December to meet the children, their families and staff and hand out goodie bags.

“It is really important for Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity that the month of December is as positive and upbeat as it can be for our young patients and their families, ensuring that the magic of Christmas is felt on every ward and clinic.
“For many of our young patients, their battle against ill health can be long and daunting. The laser pen that is now able to be purchased, thanks to the Rangers Charity Foundation, will ensure that our young patients receive the best care possible, and help to support them during the toughest of days.”
The Foundation and its fundraisers have provided support to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity (formerly Yorkhill Children’s Charity) for many years, making a real and lasting difference to the babies, children and young people treated at Scotland’s largest children’s hospital. The hospital has a special place in the hearts of the city’s people, having touched millions of lives since it first opened its doors in 1882. It exists to help sick children get better, yet it does so much more, and this is made possible thanks to the support of people throughout Scotland.
