World Mental Health Day

Thu 9th October 2025

To mark World Mental Health Day, the Foundation is highlighting the importance of mental health and wellbeing, and the work we do year-round in this area.

We are ‘A Foundation For Healthy Lives’ and place a strong emphasis on mental wellbeing, running several mental health programmes and providing a trauma counselling service at Ibrox for any of our community programme participants who need it.

Our Team Talk, Team Talk Football and The Changing Room initiatives focus on men’s mental health and we also offer two dedicated programmes for Veterans; Veterans At Ease and Glasgow Veterans United, focussing on mental wellbeing and supporting them with adapting to civilian life.

Earlier this year, the Foundation donated £20,000 to SAMH (Scottish Action For Mental Health) towards an exciting new access project, marking the conclusion of a season-long partnership working to improve mental health in Scotland.

This work is particularly apt, with the theme of this year’s World Mental Health Day 2025 being “Access to Services – Mental Health in Catastrophes and Emergencies”. Set by the World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH), the theme highlights the importance of ensuring mental health support is available and accessible to everyone, especially during times of crisis.

Our donation will help SAMH end mental health waiting list challenges for tens of thousands of people across Scotland, thanks to a brand-new initiative called The Nook. The project will revolutionise access to support by creating the nation’s first ever network of free walk-in mental health support hubs, giving people experiencing mental health problems a place to get help fast.

The Foundation is proud to be sponsoring a space dedicated to children and young people within The Nook in Glasgow city centre, and Foundation staff were invited along for a first look this week at this ground breaking new facility.

The Foundation’s Marketing and Communications Manager Jennifer Hutchison commented: “We were so proud to be part of this project and to see this week how SAMH’s hard work and commitment has come together to create a safe, inclusive and nurturing space.

“The Nook is set to open to the public on 23rd October and we’re sure it will be a hugely valuable resource for the community. To be able to walk in, ask for help and get expert support and advice there and then is nothing short of revolutionary.”
